Lois Lowry's The Giver is being challenged in Missouri.
"This book is negative," said Cerise Ivey, one of five parents who have fought the book's inclusion on student reading lists since the fall of 2003. "I read it. I don't see the academic value in it. Everything presented to the kids should be positive or historical, not negative."
Yeah, because god forbid that we prepare them for life or anything. Sheesh.

Dear god, what a moron. A majority of the reading assigned to me in school was wasn't positive or historical. My absolute favorites '1984' and 'Lord Of The Flies' were very negative and in some cases violent, yet I managed to not be scarred by the subject matter and instead learn something on society and culture.
Hopefully the book will remain on the list and the children of the idiot parents will learn something about life despite their shortsighted and narrow minded parents.

"...should be positive or historical..."
Grand parents *should* not die.
Bullys *should* not beat you up in shcool.
Pets *should* not get old or run away.
Parents *should* not beat their children.
Women *should* not be raped.
Children *should* not be abducted.
No one *should* be murdered.
Countries *should* not wage war on each other.
Parents *should* prepare their children for what the world is really like, and stop challenging the kid's school's reading ciriculum because their child is too lazy to read.
There is more...but I'm just too angry. I mean really, if you think this book is about euthanasia and has sexual content, you obviously have not read it.
